Nick -
musical upbringing
As a little boy of only 8 years old I learned to play the flute. Then, when I was 10, I took classical guitar lessons at the public music school in Boxmeer. During my last year of high school I started the preliminary classes at the Conservatory of Brabant in Tilburg. Finally, in 1996 I could study music fulltime. I started with Hein Sanderink to become music teacher and in 2002 I also studied to become performing musician.
During the years I specialised in baroque (mainly Bach), Latin and finger style techniques. I followed many courses and received guest lectures from many well-known teachers. Among them were David Russell, Hubert Kappel, Carlo Marchioni and Zoran Dukic.
I, musician
As a musician I sometimes consider myself a painter, creating various colours with beautiful sounds and clarity in my playing.
I'm looking for total surrender, either as a player or as a listener. I want to excavate the emotional boundaries. I get as much satisfaction from dramatic music that makes me burst out in tears, as from vivid, sparkling music that makes me happy and smile.
A lot of it also depends on creativity: getting away from everyday life and really expressing myself in great music, be it alone or with fellow music lovers.
